Philip Taaffe
Curated by Vittoria Coen
The solo exhibition of Philip Taaffe is presented for the first time in Italy at a public venue, in the new location of the City Gallery of Contemporary Art of Trento, from 10 June to 30 September.
The exhibition curated by Vittoria Coen consists of a selection of about thirty works made between the 1980s and a more recent period, among which there is a substantial group made especially for the occasion. In regard to these last pieces Taaffe took inspiration from the known physician Pier Andrea Mattioli, who lived in Trento during the second half of the 16th century and whose commemorative tombstone has been placed at the entrance of the City Gallery. It is, thus, in a certain way, a special homage that the American artist wants to pay to the city of Trento.
