My East is Your West. Rashid Rana, Pakistan and Shilpa Gupta, India at the 56th Venice International Art Biennale
Curated by Feroze Gujral, Natasha Ginwala, Martina Mazzotta
The Gujral Foundation and Fondazione Mazzotta – Italian Partner Foundation – are delighted to announce My East is Your West, a Collateral Event of the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, which unites for the first time at the Venice Biennale the historically conflicting nations of India and Pakistan. The event is conceived and curated by Feroze Gujral, Director and Founder of The Gujral Foundation. The Gujral Foundation have partnered with the Fondazione Mazzotta on the project with Head Curator, Martina Mazzotta, programming collateral events in Italy. Natasha Ginwala is Curatorial Advisor and Curator of Public Programming in South Asia.
Rashid Rana (Pakistan) and Shilpa Gupta‘s (India) artistic approaches intrinsically connect with the vision of Okwui Enwezor, the Biennale’s curator for 2015. His statement to “offer the world a global sounding board”, and the Biennale’s title of All the World’s Futures, invite us to reflect on the role the visual arts play in tracing meaningful elements from the upheavals of our time.
