Lorenzo Puglisi. Il Grande Sacrificio
Curated by Lorenzo Puglisi
On the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci , Lorenzo Puglisi pays his own personal homage to the Florentine genius with a monumental and original painting called Il Grande Sacrificio, created for the exhibition in Milan at the Sacrestia del Bramante in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church.
Puglisi’s painting, oil on a poplar panel created in 2019, is mere steps away from the da Vinci masterpiece to which it is dedicated – The Last Supper – and it’s displayed in the Sacrestia in all its majesty, measuring six meters long and two meters high. This is the artist’s largest work: from within abyssal blacks and pure whites, heads and the hands of Christ emerge as do those of his apostles in a rhythmic and fluctuating sequence.
The exhibition, which also presents other two works dedicated to the Passion of the Christ, is in addition a rare occasion to admire the beauty of the Sacrestia del Bramante.
The exhibit is accompanied by a catalogue published by Edizioni Manfredi and curated by Giovanni Gazzaneo.
