Promoted by Milan Town Hall – Culture – Fashion -Design – Castello Sforzesco – Palazzo Reale, supported by Regione Lombardia, organizzed by Opera d’Arte (Art WorK) opens 8th Nov 2012 till 6th Jan 2013 in the Halls of Rocchetta – Castello Sforzesco, this exhibition called “Homo Faber” shows the revival of “making” in contemporary art.
The object of the exhibition (Mimmo Di Marzio curator – Nicoletta Castellaneta cooperator) is to connect present and past, and to point out the conceptual and formal link between the works of the past since the Middle Age and the language of Contemporary Art. The common aspects of such compared works are the devotion to the technique and the knowledge of materials, which focuses on the approach of nowadays art to handmaking.
Thus, in contemporary artists, we can see the wish to rediscover and translate with modern artistic means the role of “”Homo Faber””, an exceptionally skilful craftsman, expert of materials and careful of the preeminence of technique on concept, of man on matter.
The following are the artists exhibited: Herman Bas, Bertozzi e Casoni, Alighiero Boetti, Michael Borremans, Mario Ceroli, Matt Collishaw, Vanni Cuoghi, Wim Delwoye, Fulvio Di Piazza, Natalie Djurberg, DTao, Federico Guida, Giovanni Iudice, Liu Jianhua , Titus Kaphar, Javier Marin, Marco Mazzoni, Beatriz Millar, Alfredo Rapetti Mogol, Elena Monzo, Wangechi Mutu, Moataz Nasr, Davide Nido, Luigi Ontani, Grayson Perry, Marc Quinn, Marcus Shinwald, Sissi, Carlo Steiner, Lee Sung Kuen, Tarshito, Pascale Marthine Tayou e Kehinde Wiley.
