Garelli. Sculptures 1948 – 1966
Curated by Giovanni Battista Martini, Alberto Ronchetti
The exhibition of sculptures by Franco Garelli Sculptures 1948-1966 opens in Vallauris, France, curated by Giovanni Battista Martini and Alberto Ronchetti in the three museums of the ancient Château Musée de Vallauris: Musée National Picasso “La Guerre et la Paix”, Musée de la céramique, and Musée Magnelli. The exhibition is promoted by Jean-Michel Foray, director of the Musées Nationaux du XXe siecle del Alpes Maritimes (Musée Chagall of Nice, Musée Legèr of Biot, Musée Picasso of Vallauris).
The presentation of about fifty works by the artist allows the audience to cover a period (from 1948 to 1966) when Garelli evolves from his initial experimentation on the human figure – intended not as a traditional but a “structural” image, rethought in relation to space – to that on the object, later considered closer to the technological reality of the contemporary world. On show are the well-known Tubi/Pipes of coloured metal sheets, as well as welded implements, bronze castings and displayed ceramics like terracotta and enameled terracotta, made in Vallauris, Albisola, Gubbio and Castellamonte.
