Franco Cardinali. Inquietudine necessaria
Curated by Raffaella Resch
Thirty years after Franco Cardinali’s posthumous exhibition at the Academy of Brera, the city of Milan pays homage to this artist of great calibre with an anthological curated by Raffaella Resch.
Organized by the Associazione Culturale Franco Cardinali in cooperation with the The Chamber of commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi, the exhibition at Palazzo Giureconsulti offers a comprehensive view of the work of the Liguria artist, educated within the …cole de Paris – the wide group of artists and intellectuals who worked in Paris in the interwar period – and then following his own individual path with absolutely unique and peculiar results.
More than forty works on display, made by mixing up traditional oil colours with earthy and clay materials to create thick mixed-material, show Franco Cardinali’s art which is permeated with an essential anxiety, as revealed by the title of the exhibition. A feeling that can be detecded especially in the use of deep hatching, in the restless landscapes and in the creasing of surfaces, and that Franco Cardinali translated into a constant reflection, a continuous introspection and a permanent evolution of his art.
A comprehensive catalogue published by Scalpendi Editore completes the exhibition.
