Curated by Raffaella Resch

  • 01 September 2019 - 01 September 2019

The city of Lecco pays homage to Franco Cardinali with the anthological exhibition “Franco Cardinali. Inquietudine necessaria” held at Palazzo delle Paure from 29 June to 1 September 2019, curated by Raffaella Resch.
Organized by the Municipality of Lecco – Sistema Museale Urbano Lecchese, the Chamber of Commerce of Como-Lecco and the Associazione Culturale Franco Cardinali, the exhibition presents a selection of about forty works, ranging from the ones of the mid-1950s to the great enigmatic canvases prior to the artist’s death in 1985.
The works on display, made by mixing up traditional oil colours with earthy and clay materials to create thick mixed-material, show Franco Cardinali’s art which is permeated with an essential anxiety, as revealed by the title of the exhibition; a feeling expressed by Cardinali in his day-to-day existence as well as in his art is the most characteristic aspect of his body of work, and the most evident constituent of the continuous and systematic method he used to explore the expressive possibilities of a work of art.

A comprehensive catalogue published by Scalpendi Editore in Italian and English edition completes the exhibition.
