Curated by Elena Pontiggia

  • Galleria Robilant+Voena - Milano
  • 11 April 2019 - 29 May 2019

The thematic exhibition CINEMA POP, important side event of the exhibition “MILANO POP. Pop Art e dintorni nella Milano degli anni ’60/’70” at Palazzo Lombardia Exhibition Space, presents from 11 April to 29 May at Galleria Robilant+Voena in Milan thirty works by Sergio Sarri and Giangiacomo Spadari and explores a common aspect in the work of these two exponents of Milanese Pop Art. As curator Elena Pontiggia notes, both artists èfocused on the expressive modes of cinema as pictorial inspiration’. Like painting, cinema is based on the image, but whereas film develops it in space and time, pictorial art crystallises it into a èstill’. This is the starting point shared by Sarri and Spadari.
The event is complemented by a book inspired by graphic work from vintage magazines, with contributions from Elena Pontiggia, Sergio Sarri, Alessandro Spadari and a text by Giangiacomo Spadari, in dialogue with archive images and the artworks on display.
